Hey y'all Timia Rae Frierson here! How ya doing honey?
In honor of beautiful southern belles throughout the bible belt, my organization (Southern Black Girls and Women's Consortium) is hosting a fundraiser in hopes of bringing joy to girls and women of all ages. We hope to provide funding to these individuals and give them an opportunity to bring something new and exciting to their community!
Growing up, I always spoke with a more southern dialect than the rest of my peers. I was insecure and scared sometimes to speak my mind. I wondered what people think of how I talked, where I was from, or even how I looked compared to everyone else. I guess I was ashamed of being from Mississippi. However, I quickly learned to get over it. I had to be proud of where I came from especially with me having such big dreams. This was the chance to show other people truly how special my state was for making me. Every where I went, they knew me as the small girl with the big voice. I was strong in my opinion, sweet with my talk, and had an accent thicker than honey.
I saw living in my truth and being myself was the only way to make things better at home. If that's what it took, so be it! I still carry that with me daily. My goals of self sufficiency and advocacy for my small rural community always being my motivation.
Now it is my turn to give the small confidence to other young women. I want them to know their voice is BIG no matter their size or where they come from. When it counts the most, we can be the ones making the LOUDEST noise!
I know I said a lot, but didn't I said I had a big voice? Sometimes that can come with a big mouth! If you would love to be a part of an amazing chance to give other girls that boost of confidence, you are in the right place. Every little bit counts! So, what do you say?
